Gezer09Fall SeasonSoftball

The clocks have changed; the opponents have not

Today (Sunday) the clocks changed to Fall. That will be the only difference between Summer and now. Gezer09 and Misgav met in the 2026 Spring Finals. They only played 2 games in the best-of-3, ; then war, U16+U18 National Teams, and Maccabiah stopped the series at 1 game a piece. Almost 4 months later, the 2 teams will meet Monday at Baptist, for Game 1 of the Fall Finals series. Misgav were undefeated during the Fall Season; Gezer didn't lose on the field (1 forfeit), but had a hard time getting players out. Come Monday, most (but not all) will be there, including legend Alon Leichman. Game 2 will be Thursday at Gezer, 20:30 start. If needed, Game 3 will be Monday November 2 at Baptist.

VetsFall SeasonSoftball

What Could Have Been

Last night, the Vets played Cerveceros at the Baptist Village, their final game at that field before its closing on Dec 31. The Vets showed what could have been: Down 7-4 in the top of the 5th, they exploded for 8 runs off of 2 pitchers, with great hits and baserunning. Time was running short in the bottom of the 5th, but a string of hits and walks, a steal here and there, and a Game-winning wild pitch, and Cerveceros had won, 13-12. In their last 3 games of the season, the Vets had been tied or leading very late (including a comeback against the Sox that fell short, and a lead over Penticon that was squandered in the last inning), but could only muster a tie in those 3 games. 9 runs (14-20 vs Sox, 17-17 vs Penticon and yesterday) separated the Vets, from a 3rd place playoff game vs Phoenix on Monday Oct 26. See you in the spring!!

Cadets play 3 (games)

On a very warm day, 14 Gezer Cadets (and 2 younger) players got together to play 3 games. The softball game of the day was part of the Liga Mekomit, Gezer Vets at Gezer Bats. Vets scored 1 in the top of the 1st, Bats threatened but left runners on 2nd and 3rd. Vets scored 4 in the 2nd, Bats scored 1 in the bottom of the 3rd but again stranded a runner in scoring position. Vets added 2 runs in the 4th, Bats went 1-2-3 in their half. Final score: Vets 7, Bats 1. Games 2 and 3 of the day were against a young Beit Shemesh team, led by Coach Ross. In the first game between the teams, Gezer led 4-0, 8-4 and 14-11, but a wild pitch brought in the winning run for Beit Shemesh, 15-14. The second game was shortened, due to the previous game lasting well over 2 hrs. Beit Shemesh led 5-0, Gezer came back to lead 6-5, but a 3-run last inning was too much, and Gezer lost 8-7. Congrats to the effort of the teams! Some of the kids played 3 games in 33-degree C heat, and are commended!
